City of Akron Now Accepting Applications for Fire Chief

Akron, Ohio, May 8, 2024  — Beginning today, the City of Akron is accepting applications for the next Chief of the Akron Fire Department. The city is doing an internal only search. Applicants must have a minimum of ten years of Fire and/or Emergency Management Services (EMS) command experience with a minimum of one year of experience at the level of Fire Deputy Chief. We look forward to introducing our new Fire Chief to the community this summer at a townhall focused on Fire/EMS services.”

Today, the Akron Fire Department serves a population of over 190,000 people and covers 62 square miles within the city. The department consists of over 400 employees including 387 uniformed personnel. AFD offers a comprehensive range of services, including 13 Engine companies, 15 ALS Medical Units, 4 Ladder Companies, 1 Rescue Truck, 4 Command Officers, a Hazmat Team, a Water Rescue Team, Drone Team, Technical Rescue Team, Tactical Medical Unit, and an Alternate Response Vehicle.
