Mayor Malik Issues Winter Storm Update
Akron, Ohio, Jan. 19, 2024 — Today, the City of Akron is responding to a storm front of winter weather in the region. The first snowfall of the day has been lighter than originally forecasted and we are now only expected to get an additional 1-3 inches through the remainder of the day for a total accumulation of 2-4 inches of snow.
“We have been well prepared for today’s weather event. Crews were out pretreating roadways starting at noon on Wednesday and they are now out working on main routes and arterial roads,” said Mayor Malik. “We do not anticipate needing to plow all residential streets or issuing a parking ban for this storm, but we will have all our crews out keeping arterial roadways clear for our traveling public. Thanks to our snow and ice team for all their hard work!”
Residents in need of salt or a plow on their residential road can enter a service request in three ways.
How to enter a service request:
- Call 3-1-1 (330-375-2311).
- Go online to AkronOhio.gov/311 and enter a request there.
- Download the city’s new app “MyAkron311” on Apple or Android devices and enter a request through the app.
Summit Lake Community Center (380 W Crosier St.) is open today as a warming center from 8am-7pm. It will be closed tomorrow for private events, but Mason Park Community Center (700 E. Exchange St.) will be open as a warming center for Saturday from 8am-7pm. The Emergency Overnight Shelter located at 111 East Voris St. will be open through Monday, Jan. 22. The shelter operates between 7pm and 8am.
