Mayor Malik Designates Mason Park Community Center as a Warming Center on Saturday

Summit Lake Community Center will be closed for private events on Saturday 

 
Akron, Ohio, Jan. 18, 2024  — Today, Mayor Malik is announcing the City of Akron will extend hours at Mason Park Community Center (700 E. Exchange St.) on Saturday, Jan. 20 to serve as a warming center from 8am-7pm. Summit Lake Community Center is currently serving as a warming center through Friday, January 19. All other City of Akroncommunity centerswill be open during their normal business hours.   

“Summit Lake Community Center has several private events scheduled for Saturday, so we’ve made the decision to open up Mason Park Community Center as a dedicated warming center in its place,” said Mayor Malik. “Temperatures are expected to rise following Saturday, but we will continue to monitor and adjust as needed. I encourage anyone in need to please utilize the warming center.” 

Unless otherwise specified, all centers will return to normal business hours starting Sunday, January 21.  

TheEmergency Overnight Shelterlocated at 111 East Voris St. will be open through Monday, Jan. 22. The shelter operates between 7pm and 8am.   

The Emergency Overnight Shelter is a community partnership between ThePeter Maurin Center, Summit County Continuum of Care, and Community Support Services and provides food, shelter, and clothing. You can find more information about their services athttps://www.akronemergencyshelter.org/.
