City of Akron Offices Closed January 15 in Observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Akron, Ohio, Jan. 10, 2024— All municipal offices will be closed on Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  

There will be no curb service on Monday, January 15. There will be a one-day delay of trash/recycle collections for the remainder of the week, with curb service resuming on Tuesday, January 16 and continuing through Saturday, January 20. Mayor Malik will participate in several events for the MLK Day Holiday. On Sunday, Jan. 14, Mayor Malik will attend the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Lecture at the Akron Summit County Main Library (60 S. High St.) from 2-4pm. The lecture is being given by Dr. Michael Eric Dyson and is sponsored by the Akron-Summit County Public Library, the Eta Tau Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., and the Ohio Humanities Spark Grant. Then, on Monday, Jan. 15, Mayor Malik will attend the Akron Urban League's Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast from 8-9:30am at the Hilton in Akron/ Fairlawn, 3180 W. Market Street, Akron, OH 44333.  

“Over 50 years ago, Dr. King captured the attention of the nation as a proponent of social justice,” said Mayor Malik. “His words are as relevant and impactful today as they were during the Civil Rights Movement. His lessons continue to resonate through the years and on this holiday, we take pause to remember Dr. King’s life and legacy as we recommit ourselves to the important work of calling out injustice wherever it persists.”
