Arrest Made in S. Hawkins Shooting Case

Akron, Ohio, Feb. 15, 2024  — Today, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Acting Police Chief Brian Harding are announcing an arrest has been made in a recent shooting which took place in the 1400 block of S. Hawkins Avenue on Feb. 7, 2024. The shooting left a 38-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He is still recovering from his injuries. Following the early morning shooting, detectives worked swiftly to gather additional information, which included conducting interviews with witnesses and analyzing evidence.  Soon after, investigators developed enough evidence to identify and link Christopher Taylor, 38, to the shooting and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Yesterday afternoon, Taylor surrendered to authorities and was arrested and charged with Felonious Assault in connection to the shooting.  He was booked into the Summit County Jail following his arrest.

“Violence has no place in our community,” said Mayor Malik. “This arrest underscores our commitment to holding violent offenders accountable for their actions and we will continue to pursue justice in all cases where violence is committed in Akron. I thank our officers and APD leadership for their swift work in this case.”

“I am proud of the hard work and collaborative efforts of our patrol and investigative units on this case,” said Acting Chief Harding. “This arrest just further highlights the unwavering commitment of members of the Akron Police Department to enhance public safety in our community.”
