2023 Curb Service
Starting on January 1, 2023, City of Akron trash/recycling customers will see an increase in the monthly rate of $0.50 for regular refuse service, or $0.25 if on the Homestead rate.
Akron City Council Ordinance No. 208-2018 (link provided below), provides for curb service rates to be adjusted in accordance with the Municipal Cost Index.
The Municipal Cost Index, is designed to show the effects of inflation on the cost of providing municipal services. The rates were calculated by taking the difference between the Municipal Cost Index in June 2021 and June 2022 and calculating the difference. The difference is then divided by the June 2021 MCI to determine the percentage change.

The new regular rate was calculated by taking the existing rates and multiplying it by the MCI percentage change rounded to the nearest cent to determine the new rate.
