Yamini K. Adkins has been in public service her entire career and she brings a depth of knowledge of government, law, human resources management and employment and labor relations to the City of Akron. Yamini advances the importance of clear, consistent, and efficient government practices and policies as key to good government.
Previously Yamini served as a United States Federal Commissioner with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) in the Northeastern region of Ohio. At FMCS she mediated and helped in resolving multiple cases of conflict and complex collective bargaining negotiations between labor unions and management in both the public and private sector. Yamini provided training and instruction to numerous entities around the State of Ohio to help in building harmonious labor/management relations and in implementing best practices in human resources and management in the workplace.
Prior to her role as a Federal Commissioner, Yamini has over 20 years of experience with Summit County government in the realm of Employment/Human Resources and Labor Relations. Yamini served as the Deputy Director of Human Resources/Labor Relations for the Summit County Executive’s office where she served as the Chief Negotiator of 14 separate Union contracts and oversaw various employment matters including discipline, FMLA, ADA, employee leave matters, policy and procedure and the Employee Assistance Program.
Yamini has served on various boards and committees in in the realm of tax, human resources, policy and grievance, as well as for humanitarian causes.
Yamini holds a Bachelor of Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Business Administration- Personnel/Human Resources and Management. Yamini obtained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron, School of Law. She is a licensed attorney in the State of Ohio since 1993.
