In April of 2017, Mayor Dan Horrigan appointed Tamiyka Rose to fill the newly created position of Health Equity Ambassador for the City of Akron. As Health Equity Ambassador, Ms. Rose advises Mayor Horrigan on policy initiatives, and leads Akron’s efforts to decrease racial and ethnic disparities, particularly in premature births and infant mortality. Beginning in 2020, Rose took on the additional role of Assistant to the Mayor for Public Policy. In this role she has represented Mayor Horrigan and the City of Akron in policy matters and relationships at the state and federal level. In January of 2022 Tamiyka was promoted to Deputy Chief of Staff. In this role, Tamiyka will oversee the implementation of the recommendations of the Racial Equity and Social Justice Taskforce and the Youth Violence Prevention Strategic Plan, in addition to continuing her work on Health Equity and Public Policy.
Tamiyka is a committed public policy executive, with more than twenty years of professional experience in the public sector. She has demonstrated performance in analyzing complex policy issues, utilizing outstanding verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills. Prior to working in the Mayor’s office, Ms. Rose served as Vice President of Government Relations for The MetroHealth System and is known for her tenacity to see large projects completed.
Tamiyka holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, both from The Ohio State University. She is the recipient of Crain’s Cleveland Business “Who to Watch in Healthcare”, and was awarded Kaleidoscope’s “40 under 40”. She currently resides in Macedonia, Ohio with her husband and their daughter.
