Prior to January 1, 2018 the tax rate for the City of Akron as well as the four JEDDs is 2.25%. The new tax rate of 2.5% is effective January 1, 2018 for the city of Akron as well as the four JEDDs. All residents and partial year residents 18 years of age and older are required to file a tax return regardless of whether or not any tax is due. The only filing exception is if an individual qualifies to file an Exemption Certificate.
