Our Great Streets Vision

Our Neighborhood Business Districts serve as geographic hubs in the community.

Neighborhood Business Districts (NBDs) are just what they sound like - groups of businesses that exist in your own neighborhood.

They are our mini Main Streets. Our districts' downtowns.

You get the idea.

We want to make an impact in our NBDs; we have selected 10 NBDs for the first round of the Great Streets Initiative to receive targeted resources and make a noteable impact. (Check out the Akron map to the right.)

But we know that each of Akron's neighborhood business districts have their own culture, their own M.O., their own way of doing things...

So our Great Streets Vision is to enhance, grow, and connect our Neighborhood Business Districts while empowering the unique, local culture that makes all of our streets Great Streets.

We want to provide city support and resources so that you can make the change you have envisioned for your community.

The individual goals of the Great Streets program

  • greater community engagement
  • increased business development
  • improved transportation conditions of all kinds (walking, biking, car, and transit)
  • improved aesthetics, urban design, and public space
  • promoting safer neighborhoods

Check out the Business Resource Guide for a starting point in navigating city, county, and state resource for business development.
