Eve V. Belfance began her legal career with the firm Calfee, Halter & Griswold, before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1998 where she was selected to be a federal judicial attorney. In 2005, she was elected to the Akron Municipal Court, where she presided over hundreds of cases both criminal and civil. She also played a central role in the development of the DUI Court, one of the first in its kind in Ohio.
Belfance served on the Akron Municipal Court until her election to the Ohio Ninth District Court of Appeals in 2008, where she served with distinction for six years. During her tenure, she participated in over 1,500 cases and authored over 500 opinions.
She has served as a visiting judge on the Ohio Supreme Court three times by assignment of the Chief Justice.
In addition to her work on numerous state-wide judicial committees, she has been active in judicial education, serving on the Ohio Supreme Court Judicial College Appellate Curriculum Committee, which designed the first comprehensive appellate curriculum for judges.
Belfance is a frequent speaker for continuing legal education and has also lectured to the Ohio Court of Appeals Judges Association.
She holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University, and a Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she served as an associate editor of the law review.
Belfance is a native of Akron and a graduate of Firestone High School. She is a frequent volunteer and supporter of many civic organizations and educational projects.
She currently serves on the board of the Women’s Endowment Fund, the Akron Bar Foundation, United Disabilities Services, Ballet Excel Ohio and is a member of her parish council.
