Emily Collins received her Bachelor of Arts magna cum laude from New York University’s Gallatin School in 2001 where she studied political theory and literature. In 2004, she earned her Juris Doctorate and certificates in Environmental Law and International Law from the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, New York.
Emily started her career at the Office of Public Interest Counsel of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in Austin, Texas in 2004. In 2008, she was appointed to the University of Pittsburgh School of Law’s faculty to serve as the Director of the Environmental Law Clinic. To meet the immense need of poor and modest means clients throughout the tri-state region of Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania and continue to educate young attorneys to provide environmental legal services to those most in need, Emily founded and directed Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services, a nonprofit legal services and access to environmental justice organization with offices in Pittsburgh, Akron and Philadelphia, from April 2013 through March of 2022. She has taught environmental ethics; water law, science and policy; and environmental law at the University of Pittsburgh and the Williams Honors College at the University of Akron. Emily is an avid runner and loves the abundant outdoor opportunities that Akron has to offer.
In her current role Emily proactively develops, executes, and accelerates progress toward strategic goals of the City administration. She helps identify problems, researches and analyzes potential solutions, and leads the ideation and implementation of workable City strategies, policies, and legislation.
