Published: 02-14-2018

Akron, Ohio, February 14, 2018 – For the 33rd consecutive year, the City of Akron has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The City of Akron has received this award every year since its creation.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. According to the GFOA, consistent receipt of this award represents a significant accomplishment by the City of Akron and its management. The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate the City’s financial story while motivating potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

“I’m proud to say that Akron taxpayers can have confidence that our public funds are being managed in accordance with the highest standards of transparency and public accountability,” Mayor Dan Horrigan said of the award. “This accomplishment is a direct result of the dedication and professionalism of my Director of Finance, Diane Miller-Dawson, and our finance staff who work to clearly, accurately and effectively communicate the City’s financial picture to the public.”

The City’s CAFR is published on the City’s website each year; the 2017 report is available here.

The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and DC. To learn more about GFOA visit:
