Summit Lake Community Center to Host Toys for Tots Program for 2017 Holiday Season

City of Akron Press Release

Akron, Ohio, October 31, 2017 – Mayor Horrigan is proud to announce that the City of Akron’s Summit Lake Community Center will be hosting a Toys for Tots Program this year, in conjunction with United States Marines Corp and First Faith Development Corporation.

Each year, the mission of the Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during the holiday season and distribute those toys as gifts to less fortunate children in the community.

“We are excited to host this city-wide program at our Summit Lake Community Center, where we work every day to build strong neighborhoods through programming for residents of all ages,” Mayor Horrigan said.

“While the holidays are a time to celebrate with loved ones and count our blessings, we must not forget that this season can be difficult for families experiencing tough economic times,” Mayor Horrigan continued. “Through the Toys for Tots program, more Akron families can experience the joys of the holiday season through the wonderful gift of giving.”

“I encourage all of our residents to consider giving if they are able, to help spread holiday cheer to as many children as possible across our community.”

Those interested in donating newly-packaged, unwrapped toys or receiving Toys for Tots gifts should visit the Summit Lake Community Center (located at 380 West Crosier Street, Akron, Ohio, 44311) from November 1 – November 30, 2017, on weekdays from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM.  Please note that monetary gifts cannot be accepted at the Summit Lake location.

The toys collected at the Summit Lake Community Center will be distributed to registered families on December 9, 2017 at 9:00 AM.

To register to receive a toy, individuals must present an I.D. and Social Security Card for the head of household, as well as a Social Security Card for each child in the household (age 17 or younger).

For more information about the program, please contact Audley McGill, Summit Lake Community Center Supervisor at [email protected] or 330-375-2826.
