Lock 3 Amphitheatre in Downtown Akron Releases 2017 Summer Concert and Event Schedule

Akron, Ohio, April 14, 2017 - The City’s Lock 3 amphitheater, a beacon of downtown Akron, has hosted more than 2.5 million visitors since opening in 2003. The venue is proud to announce a 2017 summer season packed with 26 Friday and Saturday night concerts, 4 large festivals, 40 community fundraising events, plus blues and jazz, Live at Lock 4, Third Thursday and gospel events in neighboring Lock 4. Lock 3 opens its 2017 summer season with the first Rock the Lock concert, presented by WONE, on Friday, May 26th on the Cleveland Clinic Akron General Stage, featuring Straight On, Heart Tribute Band with Rachel Roberts.


WONE’s Friday Night Rock the Lock Concerts

National caliber rock and roll tribute bands have been the signature of Lock 3 on Friday nights during the summer. New tributes and old favorites will perform every Friday from May 26th-July 7th, then July 21st-September 1st. For details, visit


Lock 3 Live! Summer Saturday Concerts

Saturday night concert highlights include national artist George Clinton for $10 admission on June 24th, and Kool and the Gang for $15 on September 2nd. Tickets go on sale through the Civic Theatre Box Office April 21st and 28th, respectively. National tribute artist The Luther Vandross Experience will perform on August 5th. As part of the growing Rubber City Jazz Festival, Joey DeFrancesco will perform on August 26th. For details, visit


The City of Akron’s Rib, White and Blue Festival June 30th–July 4th

Lock 3 expands its gates to encompass South Main Street for Northeast Ohio’s largest 4th of July Rib Festival, featuring rib vendors from all over the United States competing for cash prizes and bragging rights. For decades, Akron has celebrated Independence Day with food, fireworks, and music. Admission is free. For details, visit


The 67th Annual Italian-American Festival July 13th–15th 

The three-day festival opens for lunch on Thursday and Friday and continues through Saturday night. Dozens of vendors of authentic Italian food will be on hand through the three-day event on South Main Street. Admission is free. For a complete list of events, visit


The Akron African Festival July 22nd–23rd

The 36th annual African American Festival & Parade Exhibition has attracted thousands to the Akron area over the years. It is the second oldest cultural festival in Ohio. Individuals have planned family reunions and homecomings around the dates and nationally known speakers and entertainment have participated. Local economic entrepreneurship has been facilitated through adults and youth vendors offering food, cultural artifacts, commercial services and youth activities. National Hamburger Festival August 12th–13th

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the National Hamburger Festival. Hundreds of thousands of hamburger fans have enjoyed family fun, great entertainment and one of the largest assortments of hamburgers ever assembled in one place. Admission is $5. For details, visit


Community Events Abound at Lock 3

Over $1 million has been raised for the charities which have used Lock 3 as a home base for fundraisers. Over 40 community events have been scheduled so far for Lock 3 in 2017. 


Lock 4's Lock Bottom Blues & Jazz Club, Gospel Sundays and New Third Thursday

The City of Akron will continue to host local jazz concerts at the outdoor Lock Bottom Blues & Jazz Club every Wednesday. Gospel Sundays return for the fourth year, every other Sunday. In its second year is thirdThursday, occurring every 3rd Thursday from June-September, where you can enjoy after-work local entertainment, food trucks, games, drinks and more.

Music, Malts & Movie – Saturday, July 8th

Free Admission. Tasting starts at 5:00 p.m. Outdoor movie starts at dusk. Join us for a night of Malternative Beer tasting, local music and a classic movie that everyone loves. Brought to you by Tramonte Distributing.


The Signal Tree Festival – Saturday, July 29th

Free Admission. Lock 3 and The Devil Strip are partnering up to showcase the very best of Akron's past, present and future. Wash down your pizza, jo-jos and sauerkraut balls with some of the Blimp City's tastiest craft brews while you rock to incredible live, local music. Family Fun Festivities 2017 and Movie Night – Saturday, August 19th

Free Admission. 3:00 p.m. – Outdoor movie starts at dusk. Enjoy kids’ inflatables, contests, entertainment and other events. Bring your chairs and blankets.
