Akron, Ohio, January 8, 2020Mayor Dan Horrigan is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Moore as the next City Engineer for the City of Akron. Moore has served in various engineering and capital planning positions with the City of Akron since 1991, and has served as interim City Engineer since August 2019.

“In his 29 years with the City of Akron, Mark has worked with nearly every division of the Department of Public Service, including extensive experience in Engineering, Capital Planning, Water Supply and Wastewater operations,” Mayor Horrigan said.  “In the short term, we are not looking to take on many new large-scale construction projects, but rather prioritizing and executing all the projects we currently have underway.  I am confident that Mark can lead these efforts to reinvest at the neighborhood level, by balancing the needs of residents, motorists, businesses, and workers in every project.”

The City Engineer plans and directs the design and construction of all municipal infrastructure, including streets, sewers, bridges, public buildings, parks, sidewalks, and other City projects. The Engineering Bureau includes several divisions: Traffic, Design, Environmental, Construction, Operations Support, Plans and Permits, and Akron Waterways Renewed.

Mark Moore was hired in April 1991 as an Engineering Designer.  He worked his way through the ranks, serving as a Civil Engineer and Senior Engineer. In 2011, he was promoted to Capital Planning Manager, and then in 2019 his title became Long-Range Planning Manager.  Moore earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from The Ohio State University, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law. He holds a license from the State of Ohio as a registered Professional Engineer (PE). Mark and his wife, Shelley, have been Akron residents for nearly 30 years, and are parents to a son and daughter.

“It is truly an honor to become the next City Engineer for the City of Akron, and I want to thank Mayor Horrigan and incoming Service Director Chris Ludle for entrusting me with this position,” Moore said. “As I have always done in my long career, I will continue to give 100% every day to see that we continue to make Akron a wonderful place to work, live, and play.  I look forward to being a part of the dedicated leadership team that strives, each and every day, to ensure a wonderful future for the City of Akron.”
