Akron, Ohio, March 26, 2019 – Teen facilitators from the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council (MYLC) will present Teens and Money Workshops to high school students FREE on Saturday, March 30th at Northwest Family Recreation Center and Saturday, April 6th at Firestone Park Community Center, each from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Each workshop will feature three sessions, focusing on key areas of importance for young men and women: Budgeting Tips, Managing Student Loans, and Understanding Credit Cards. In addition to receiving important and useful information regarding financial literacy, there is an additional benefit for teens to help further their education. The more sessions a participant attends the more chances they have to qualify for a $500.00 scholarship drawing. While pre-registration is not required, participants are encouraged to pre-register by contacting the MYLC coordinator here.

“This program is a great example of the power of peer-to-peer facilitation,” Mayor Horrigan said. “I encourage all our young people to attend one of these workshops and learn valuable skills that will set them on a path to financial stability as they enter the workforce and prepare for higher education.”

Additional information about MYLC, financial literacy workshops, and how to apply to become a teen facilitator can be found online at  MYLC and the Teens and Money Workshops are funded by the City of Akron, Huntington Bank, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and the U.S. Conference of Mayors DollarWise initiative.

Questions about MYLC or the Teens and Money program can be directed to Diversity/Training Manager Myra Snipes at (330) 375-2704 or MYLC Program Coordinator Willa Keith at (330) 375-2712.
