Akron, Ohio, Sept. 22, 2022 — Open Streets @ the Innerbelt is a collaboration between the Reconnecting Our Community committee, City of Akron Recreation and Parks Department, and Downtown Akron Partnership to turn the Innerbelt into a park for a day. Funding support for the event has been provided by the Knight Foundation. The event is scheduled to take place Sat. Oct. 1 from 12-4pm and will include free food, music, art, and more all on the decommissioned section of the Akron Innerbelt.

As the City works to envision what could be next for this empty section of the Innerbelt, one idea that has been repeatedly brought up during engagement sessions with former residents and other interested parties is to turn the area into a vibrant park. Open Streets @ the Innerbelt will do just that for this one-day event.

Event Activities

  • Soul Food Cook-off featuring local Akron restaurants
  • Custard Stand
  • DJ + Dance Floor
  • Art Making
  • Games
  • Bike Riding (Bikes will be available for use)
  • Spin Scooters available for riding
  • Displays About the Neighborhood's History
  • Conversations About What's Next for the Innerbelt

This event is free and open to the public.

The Innerbelt will be accessible via shuttles from the Wills Lot (entrance on Wills Ave., near Locust St.). Shuttles will leave and return every 20 minutes from 12 pm - 4 pm.
