City Announces Constellation to Provide Competitive Fixed Rate for Natural Gas Aggregation Program

City of Akron Press Release

Published: 01-10-2019

The City of Akron has chosen Constellation, an Exelon Company, to provide residents and small businesses with competitive natural gas supply following a competitive bidding process under the state’s natural gas choice governmental aggregation program. In March 2016, Akron voters authorized the creation of an aggregation program to allow for bulk purchase of natural gas.

The competitive rate under the new agreement is $3.09/Mcf for the term of May 2019 through November 2021. The program starts with the February 2019 meter read.  The billing months of March and April 2019 will be the Dominion Standard Service Offer minus $.05/Mcf. To opt-in or learn more about the natural gas aggregation program, Akron residents can contact a member of Constellation’s dedicated customer care team at 1-833-500-2738.

“We are happy to secure such a competitive rate for our residents and small businesses,” Mayor Dan Horrigan said of the program. “By combining our buying power, we can be more effective in negotiating rates than an individual customer might be. Constellation’s fixed rate is more competitive than other current, comparable term offers listed on Public Utilities Commission of Ohio comparison charts and will help Akron residents control their natural gas costs.”

Those eligible for the city’s program should expect to receive a notice in the mail from Constellation in the coming days. The notice will explain the rate, terms and conditions, and various methods of enrolling in the City’s natural gas program.  Constellation recommends that residents look for this letter and, if not interested, follow its simple instructions to opt-out by phone, mail or online at

“Constellation is proud to provide the City of Akron with price certainty and the same effortless experience we offer all customers,” said Kevin Klages, Senior Vice President, Mass Markets, for Constellation. “As a national leading competitive supplier with deep roots in serving Ohio consumers, we look forward to supplying natural gas to Akron’s residents and small businesses.”

The City is pleased to make this program possible but asks that residents not call the city offices, for information and instead contact Constellation toll free at 1-833-500-2738 if they have questions.

This offer is sold by Constellation Energy Gas Choice, Inc., an independent natural gas supplier licensed by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, license No. 02-021G(6). Constellation’s price does not include any taxes, utility distribution charges or other utility fees, charges or credits.
