Akron, Ohio, December 14, 2017– For the 32nd consecutive year, the City of Akron has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for its annual budget. The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental budgeting, and represents a significant achievement by the City of Akron and its management team.

"This award reflects the commitment of our Director of Finance, Diane Miller-Dawson, and her staff to meeting and exceeding the highest principles of governmental budgeting," Mayor Dan Horrigan said. "As Mayor, I am fortunate to have a finance team that expertly crafts and administers our city budget in accordance with the priorities of my administration to improve the education, income and health of our residents, provide quality neighborhoods services, and grow our population."

The City of Akron has received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award every single year since its creation in 1984. "This incredible history is a testament to the expertise and dedication of the finance professionals that safeguard and manage our public dollars every day."

In order to receive the award, the City of Akron fulfilled nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation, designed to assess how well the budget serves as:

 a policy document

 a financial plan

 an operations guide; and

 a communications device.

According to the GFOA, recipients of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award "have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America."
