Mayor Dan Horrigan Helps Kick-Off “Safety Around Water” Program Seeking to End Childhood Drowning

Akron, Ohio, June 28, 2017 – Tomorrow at 11:00 AM, Mayor Dan Horrigan will be joined by representatives of Akron Children’s Hospital, the Akron Area YMCA, and the Akron Urban League to discuss the “Safety Around Water” Program. 

Drowning is the second leading cause of death for children ages 5 through 14; and African-American children are three times as likely to drown as their white peers. Through a community partnership, the city has set a goal of teaching all Akron children, by the time they enter 4th grade, how to stay safe in and around water.
