Akron, Ohio, July 21, 2017  The Akron PeaceMakers, the City’s premiere youth volunteer group, will hold its 10th Anniversary Celebration and Teen Expo, on Thursday, July 27, from 5:30 to 10:00 PM at Lock 3 in downtown Akron.

The event is FREE to middle and high school students and is open to all teens in Northeast Ohio. The event will feature music, games, and prizes. There will be various sport activities, including an interactive mobile game truck and a game arcade. There also will be a free photo booth, airbrush tattoos, glitter tattoos, a professional balloon artist, and much more.

Exhibitors from local organizations will also be on hand to provide teens with information on education, health, safety and opportunities to volunteer in the community.

The focus of this year’s event will be music and entertainment. Games will be available free of charge from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, followed by a two and a half hour block of entertainment.  The show will kick-off at 7:30 PM with music by Ohio’s #1 Hip Hop/Party Band, LDNL (Lt. Dan’s New Legs), who will perform their first of two shows. They will be followed by the ELEVATED Dance Crew out of Cleveland and the internationally known, juggling husband and wife team, (seen on Late Night with David Letterman) Mark & Marlo. LDNL will return at 9:00 pm to close out the night with a flurry of the best of today’s party jams.

“The youth volunteers of the Akron PeaceMakers are a shining star of our city,” Mayor Horrigan said. “I encourage all our local teens to come and enjoy this free evening of fun and entertainment and learn about positive opportunities for young people in our community.”

“This year is all about celebration,” said Billy Soule, the program’s creator and Assistant to the Mayor for Community Relations. “We want our youth to know we recognize and celebrate the contributions they have made to the community. Every youth-oriented program and organization in Akron and Summit County is invited to join us for this exciting event.”

The only costs for attendees are food and concessions.

The PeaceMakers program has more than 150 active and alumni members.  In 2016, members participated in more 65 different community projects and provided in excess of 5,500 volunteer hours. The Akron PeaceMakers are supported through funds provided by the City of Akron, The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Huntington Bank, the Akron Community Foundation, and contributions from the general public.
