Akron, Ohio (March 12, 2014) -  This Saturday, March 15, 2014, two popular downtown family venues are sponsoring community “meet and greet” events to thank Mayor Don Plusquellic for his 40 years of public service to Akron.

At these events, the Mayor will be handing discounted tickets to Akron RubberDucks’ games and to a special “Mayor’s Day at the Akron Zoo” which will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014.  He will also give away Akron Civic Theater vouchers for the Sunday, March 23rd, 2:30 pm performance of Sleeping Beauty, presented by ArtReach Touring Theatre.

The Mayor is asking everyone to bring a food item to donate to the Akron Canton Regional Food Bank.  The City of Akron PeaceMakers will be collecting these items for the Food Bank’s 2014 Harvest for Hunger campaign.  The items most needed by the Food Bank are boxed cereal, peanut butter, canned tuna, canned vegetables, canned soup, canned vegetables, canned meats, and canned fruit, but all donations are greatly appreciated.

The Civic Theater.  From 10-11:30 a.m., just prior to downtown Akron’s Ancient Order of Hibernians St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Civic Theater is inviting the public to come meet the Mayor, take a photo with him, enjoy cookies, juice, face painting and balloon making, and get discounted passes to popular family friendly venues.

The Duck Club at Canal Park.  After you enjoy the fabulous St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Main Street, the festivities continue after the parade, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at Canal Park.  The RubberDucks are hosting an event where the Mayor will meet with residents, take photos, and hand out discounted vouchers to a RubberDucks game, the Civic, and the Akron Zoo.    There will also be face painting and balloon making at Canal Park, as well as visits from Orbit.

*Tickets and refreshments will be available while supplies last!
