Akron, Ohio (January 11, 2016) – In this evening’s meeting, Akron City Council approved a Charter Amendment proposed by the City of Akron Blue Ribbon Task Force and the Mayor to address the Charter (Section 104) that requires the City Personnel Director to be appointed by the Civil Service Commission.
In this amendment, the Mayor will appoint the Human Resources Director, thus allowing for greater transparency in this area. Additionally, the current confusion surrounding the reporting lines for the Human Resources Director will be eliminated.
According to the Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force, by making this amendment change, the human relations function of the City will be simplified, offering clearly defined personnel lines for the benefit of the residents of Akron and all City employees, while also streamlining operations of the Civil Service Commission.
