Akron, Ohio, August 2, 2022 — Today, Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan announced that Akron’s Home Repair Program, which launched in June of 2022, has already received over 1,800 applications. The first 20 applicants to receive home repairs have been selected, and the city will begin performing home inspections this week on those properties.
The Program will provide up to $25,000 in home repairs to qualified homeowners in Akron. Types of home repairs that are available through the Program include: accessibility modifications, carpentry repairs, siding, drywall/painting, flooring, foundations, gutters and downspouts, plumbing, roofing, windows, doors, HVAC and electrical work.
“We knew this program would be popular with our residents, and we are ecstatic about this outpouring of interest,” said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “This is the largest program of its kind utilizing American Rescue Plan dollars across the entire nation and we are incredibly proud of this effort to help Akronites improve their homes.”
The team is currently in the process of reviewing all of the applications to determine eligibility. This process will likely take several months to review all the applications, however applicants can expect to receive a letter in the mail in the next several weeks to let them know their application has been received and is under review. If selected, an applicant will receive a phone call to set up a home inspection. If an application requires further information or does not meet eligibility, the applicant will receive a letter in the mail.
All home inspections and eligible repairs will be completed by City-approved, licensed, building contractors. The city received 68 applications from contractors to participate in the program.
Applications for the Home Repair Program can still be submitted online here or paper applications can be submitted in person or by mail to City Hall, 166 South High Street, Room 100, Akron, Ohio 44308. However, further applications will not be reviewed until the city has first reviewed and determined eligibility for all those who have already applied. If there is additional funding available, the city will review further applications. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2022. No applications received after that date will be reviewed. You can still call the dedicated phone line at 330-591-4694 with any questions or for help with an application.
