City of Akron Press Release

Published: 06-01-2021

Akron, Ohio, June 1, 2021 For the second year, the City of Akron and Akron Children’s Hospital are collaborating to give Akron families a fun jump-start to summer. Akron Children’s Hospital is the exclusive sponsor of the Jump into a Healthy Summer” program.

The program kicks off today, with activity bags being provided to children ages 5-12 who live in the City of Akron, with a goal of helping to keep them active through the summer months. Items in the bags will include classic summer items such as frisbees, jump ropes, wiffle balls, cones, chalk and other surprises. The items can be used to play traditional summer games like hopscotch, frisbee, tag and relay races, or families can tap into some creative thinking and invent new games and activities with their own rules.

The activity bags are free and will be delivered to participants’ doorsteps. To register, please visit Lock3Live.com.

“Akron Children’s Hospital is very excited to once again team up with the City of Akron to sponsor the ‘Jump into a Healthy Summer Program,’” said Grace Wakulchik, president and CEO of Akron Children’s. “We want to see kids and families active and outside, enjoying the sun, their backyards and our wonderful park systems.”

"We’re thrilled to encourage children and families in our community to stay active in their neighborhood, and these activity bags—generously sponsored by Akron Children's Hospital—inspire that action," said Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. "With items to fuel childhood fun, we can't wait to see Akron’s kids staying active, playing outside, and letting their imaginations come alive."

In addition to the activity bags, each Wednesday in July, Lock 3 will also feature a video on their social media channels (Facebook and Twitter) promoting healthy living and safe summer fun.

Interested families who live in Akron can register for a free activity bag at Lock3Live.com or by calling 330-375-2877. Prizes will be offered to participants who email photos of themselves and their families having fun with the activity bags to [email protected]. Lock 3 may share these images on their social media channels.
