City of Akron Celebrates Akronite App’s Second Birthday

Akron, Ohio, Nov. 22, 2022 — In 2020, Akron launched the Akronite app to increase civic and community engagement, raise up woman- and minority-owned businesses, and help residents connect with local retailers. Since the launch, more than 8,000 users and over 300 local businesses have participated in the points-based rewards system for spending dollars locally. The app has also generated over $2.55M of local economic impact.
The app gives retailers marketing tools to connect them with residents while incentivizing Akronites to shop locally by rewarding them with specialized blimps that are redeemable at participating Akron businesses. To celebrate two years of the Akronite App the city is holding a birthday contest which kicks off on Friday, November 25. Throughout the competition period (Nov. 25 - Dec. 20), users should redeem as many blimps as possible at local Akron businesses using the Akronite app. The top 100 redeemers will then be entered into the big raffle to win a WinterBlast Lock 3 package! The winning package valued at $300 includes a 2-hour igloo rental, a 1-hour fire pit rental, 6 ten minute bumper car rides, 6 twenty minute ice bike rides, and 6 skate rentals as well as a dining certificate at one of our downtown establishments.
Businesses can get in on the fun too. Merchants participating in the Akronite program as redeemers will automatically be included in the contest. The winning Merchant will be chosen at random from all Merchants who receive Blimps as payment during the contest period and will also receive a WinterBlast package.
