City of Akron Press Release
Published: 10-21-2014

On October 22nd and 23rd, 2014, the City of Akron will host a two-day launch event to unveil the formation of an unprecedented initiative called the Akron Global Water Alliance (AGWA).  The AGWA initiative will ultimately establish the City of Akron as a “Center for Water Excellence” as well as a place “Where Collaboration Brings Innovation to Life.”

“What we want to create through AGWA is a knowledge exchange center for innovative water technologies and an attractive opportunity for water technology companies looking to start-up, relocate, or grow their business in the U.S. and Akron,” stated Mayor Don Plusquellic.

AGWA has garnered support from multiple organizations including governmental organizations, international water associations, research institutions, consulting engineers, technology companies and many others.  The program looks to identify the newest innovative technologies available in the world to address many emerging U.S. water quality issues.  Once the technologies are identified, a platform would be available to prove the products effectiveness and then help promote the technology in the water utility market.

The launch event is being held at the University of Akron, and nearly 100 guests are attending, including a delegation from Israel,  representatives from the Netherlands, and numerous water professionals from the region. This by-invitation-only event will introduce attendees to AGWA, and include presentations and discussions regarding Israeli water technology, Dutch water technology, and emerging issues in water throughout the United States.
