
NORTHEAST OHIO WATER UTILITIES ASSURE CONFIDENCE IN DRINKING WATER

Akron, Ohio, January 22, 2016 – In response to the events of Flint, Michigan, a group of Northeast Ohio Surface Water Utilities professionals met to discuss Flint and the current status of lead in each of their communities.
Representatives from the participating Northeastern Ohio communities included; Akron, Alliance, Avon, Barberton, Campbell, Newton Falls, Niles, Ravenna, Salem, Warren, and Youngstown. Each shared they are well within the U.S. EPA requirements for lead. In addition, participants reiterated their commitment to provide safe and reliable drinking water to their communities. Participants pledged to be available to one another in the event any situation would diminish confidence in a water system.
Since 2014, the City of Akron has organized multiple collaborative events bringing together many leaders of water treatment plants from throughout Northeastern Ohio. Approximately, three times a year, professionals from these utilities meet in Akron to educate, collaborate and discuss the emerging issues in water treatment and the best methods each utility utilizes to insure exceptional water quality for their customers.
