The City of Akron is proud to announce the completion of the recent natural gas program implementation and continued open enrollment of the electric aggregation program.
“Without cost to the City of Akron, our natural gas aggregation program was implemented with only a few hundred residents opting-out, and even a few hundred opting-in,” remarked John Moore, Director of Public Service. The initial enrollment was about 34,000 households and residents who are not in the program can still enroll by contacting Constellation Energy.
The program rate of $3.09/Mcf runs through the November 2021 billing cycle. Recently, Dominion Energy Ohio increased their auction adder by $.15/Mcf to $.22/Mcf for their SCO rate program. Residents in the City’s natural gas aggregation program will be unaffected by this increase.
“The City of Akron and Buckeye Energy Brokers, the program’s administrator, extend a warm welcome to new members of the program,” Mayor Horrigan said. “We are delighted to offer our residents such a low fixed rate for natural gas with no fee to opt out at any time. The City of Akron’s electric aggregation rate continues to save Akron residents as compared to the utility rate and will not change during the summer months.”
Additionally, the City’s electric program with FirstEnergy Solutions has continued open enrollment through May 2021. The rate of 4.93 cents/kWh is fixed with a $25 early termination fee.
“We are thrilled to offer these energy programs exclusively to the residents and small businesses of Akron,” John Moore added. “Residents who are currently under contract with another provider are not affected, so those residents would need to contact the service provider to enroll.”
For more information on the City’s energy programs, please contact Constellation Energy at 833-500-2738 for natural gas or FirstEnergy Solutions at 866-636-3749 for electric.
