Residents encouraged to donate their gently used items to charity

Simple Recycling has determined their business model can’t be properly sustained in the City of Akron, and has decided to stop accepting textiles or appliances in their branded orange or green bags via the City recycling program. During the 39 months the collection services were offered, 318 tons of textile and small appliances were successfully recycled in Akron. Both the City and Simply Recycling continue to seek more efficient and cost-effective options to re-establish the program sometime in the future.
With the conclusion of this partnership, the City asks that textiles and appliances not be placed in Akron recycling carts, as these items are not accepted by the local Municipal Recycling Center. For a list of items that are acceptable, please visit the Recycling Collection website or call the Mayor’s Action Center at 311 or 330-375-2311.
The City encourages residents and customers to donate any gently used items to charities of their choice, as a means of diverting them from local landfills
