City using existing ward boundaries for leaf pickup schedule

Akron, Ohio (November 4, 2013) –  The City of Akron’s Leaf Pickup Schedule is underway utilizing the existing ward boundaries the City has had in place for years.  Residents should watch for the signage in the tree lawns giving advanced warning of pickup dates.  The following schedule is up to date and reflects a one week delay from original schedule:

               Ward 2                 November 4

               Ward 9                 November 6

               Ward 7                 November 8

               Ward 6                 November 13

               Ward 1                 November 16

               Ward 8                 November 21

               Ward 4                 November 30

               Ward 3                 December 5

               Ward 5                 December 9

               Ward 10               December 11

Although new ward boundaries become effective January 1, 2014, the ward boundaries in place right now are the boundaries that are referenced above.

“There seems to be some confusion regarding what ward boundaries are being used (old or new) to determine the City’s leaf pickup schedule,” said John Moore, Akron’s Service Director.  “It may stem from the primary elections and the election tomorrow.  Residents are voting in their new wards, although for purposes of the City’s leaf pickup schedule, the city is using the current (old) ward boundaries.”

The reason residents are voting in their new wards is because they are voting for the elected officials that will represent and affect them in 2014.  Since the new wards do not take effect until January 1, 2014, services are still being provided based on existing wards.

Residents are reminded to not rake leaves into the street until the day before scheduled leaf pickup.  Each of the wards takes more than one day to complete, so leaves should be on the street by the dates listed so that city workers do not pass over your house.

The City is making one round through each ward, and will attempt to stay on the schedule listed above.  As is common in Ohio, weather does not always cooperate, so changes in pickup may occur.  The most up to date information can be found at, or you can call 3-1-1 (330 375-2311) for up-to-date information.
