City of Akron Leaf Removal to Begin October 31
City of Akron Press Release
From the desk of City of Akron Press Office
Published: 10-24-2022
Akron, Ohio, October 24, 2022 —The City of Akron leaf removal will begin Monday, October 31 in Ward 3. Signs will be posted in the various wards prior to pick-up dates.
Residents are reminded that Akron Municipal Code prohibits the discharge of leaves and grass into the city's sewer systems. The City’s leaf collection program only permits the raking of leaves into the street within two feet of the curb the day before the scheduled collection day for that street (posted by signage on streets). Leaf piles in the street can and will block and plug up storm sewers and combined sewers if left for too long which is why there are fines and penalties for violations.
All the wards will take more than one day to complete. Residents should have leaves on the street one day prior to the date listed or they may not get picked up. Be aware that the schedule is subject to change if adverse weather conditions prohibit removal. If there is a change to the schedule, it will be posted on the Leaf Removal Program page on the City website.

We ask residents to adhere to the following guidelines so leaf removal can be safe and effective:
- Do not allow children to play in leaves on or near the street
- Do not place branches or any other debris in the street – only leaves
- Do not rake leaves into the street after the removal has taken place or you may be subject to a fine
- Do not park vehicles on the street the day before pick-up or until your leaves have been removed
- Do not park vehicles over the pile of leaves because heat from the underside of the vehicle may cause a fire
- Rake leaves within two feet of the curb no earlier than the day before scheduled collection to help keep leaves from collecting in storm sewers
For residents wishing to have leaves removed before or after their scheduled pick-up date, the City offers three free curb service bulk pick-ups per year. The leaves must be bagged for early pick-up. To schedule, please contact 3-1-1 or (330) 375-2311.
