For Existing Business
Business Retention
While attracting new business and industry to the area is extremely important, the City of Akron recognizes that existing businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy. Existing businesses contribute 40 to 80 percent of all new jobs, support our local labor force, and enhance our quality of life. Assisting existing business industry with growth and expansion plans is therefore an integral part of the City of Akron mission. The objective of the City of Akron is to provide outreach to local businesses and support the continued growth and expansion of existing businesses and industry within the City of Akron through a variety of means:
- Build relationships with company officials
- Develop communication links to inform and gain feedback from local businesses
- Identify barriers local businesses face as they try to survive and grow
- Identify growth and expansion opportunities
- Provide assistance in the form of referral to resource partners or workforce training
The City of Akron Mayor’s Office of Economic Development believes that actively assisting local businesses will:
- Improve the business climate of the community
- Help to make local businesses remain competitive
