
Environmental Division
Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Program Management Team (PMT)
The Environmental Division oversees and coordinates the CSO-PMT for the City of Akron. The program includes an $850 million program of tunnels, storage basins, sewer separations, and improvements at the Water Pollution Control Station and Mud Run Pump Station. Upon completion of the current plan, Akron will have no untreated overflows from combined sewers in the typical year.
Developer Assistance and Coordination
The Environmental Division is responsible for establishing initial contact with developers and their engineers to define project scope and developer/City responsibilities. The Environmental Division is the primary contact with the developers through the plan development stage and coordinates plan reviews and other activities with appropriate City divisions.
Private Development Plan Review
The Environmental Division is responsible for reviewing private sewer, site and storm water management plans submitted through the City's Plans and Permits Center, including coordination with other Bureau of Engineering divisions as required.
Storm Water Management
The Environmental Division is responsible for coordinating the study, design and implementation of a City storm water management system. The Environmental Division is also responsible for coordinating the storm sewer system permit application process to the Ohio EPA and the Summit County Soil and Water District. The Environmental Division provides assistance to the public and other City divisions in investigating and resolving storm water problems and complaints.
Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Studies
The Environmental Division is responsible for developing the scope of services and background information for the annual Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction Program. The Environmental Division is also responsible for evaluating information from sanitary sewer flow monitors and rain gauges to develop criteria for relieving sanitary sewer system deficiencies.
Water Pollution Control Station
The Environmental Division is responsible for preparing the scope of services for all major WPCS projects, including projects at the Sludge Composting Facility. The Environmental Division is responsible for performing the project management duties during the planning and design of major Water Pollution Control Station projects.
Joint Economic Development Districts (JEDD)
The Environmental Division is responsible for preparing the scope of services and performing project management duties, including consultant contract administration, during the planning and design of water and sewer extension projects required under the JEDD contracts with Bath, Copley, Coventry and Springfield Townships.
