**The Income Tax Deadline for filing and paying your 2020 tax return is May 17, 2021.  Nothing further needs to be done to extend the filing and payment for your tax return. The due date has been automatically extended for the City Income Tax filing and payment since the State of Ohio has extended its due date.  The due date for the First Quarter 2021 estimate payment remains April 15, 2021.**

The City of Akron Income Tax Division will reopen for walk-in service on Monday, June 14, 2021.

A Drop Box is now available: 

If you prefer to drop off, instead of mailing, your Akron or JEDD Income Tax Forms, documents, responses to letters, payments (checks or money orders only, no cash), a Drop Box is now available.  Please place the contents inside of an envelope and be sure to include your contact information:  address, email address and telephone number(s).  If you prefer that we complete your tax form, you can  click here to download a “2020 Tax Form Completion Request” and either mail it or drop it in the Drop Box.  The drop box is accessible Monday through Friday between 5:45 am and 5:50 pm.  The Drop box is not accessible on weekends or holidays.

The City of Akron Income Tax Division collects and administers the Akron City Income Tax as well as the Income Tax for the following four Joint Economic Development Districts:

  • Bath – Fairlawn – Akron JEDD
  • Copley – Akron JEDD
  • Coventry – Akron JEDD
  • Springfield – Akron JEDD

Prior to January 1, 2018 the tax rate for the City of Akron as well as the four JEDDs is 2.25%.  The new tax rate of 2.5% is effective January 1, 2018 for the city of Akron as well as the four JEDDs.  All residents and partial year residents 18 years of age and older are required to file a tax return regardless of whether or not any tax is due.  The only filing exception is if an individual qualifies to file an Exemption Certificate.  All businesses within or doing business within the City or any of the JEDDs are required to file an annual Net Profit Return.  Employers are required to withhold, file and remit tax on a monthly or quarterly basis.  Income Tax assistance is available by contacting our office at 330-375-2290 (Individuals) or 330-375-2539 (Businesses) or by visiting our office.

NEW MUNICIPAL INCOME TAX GUIDELINES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2016.

Pursuant to Amended Substitute House Bill 5, new State of Ohio mandated municipal income tax guidelines have been established for tax returns due for the tax years beginning January 1, 2016 and after.

City of Akron and JEDD income tax quarterly withholding due dates have changed as a result of Ohio Senate Bill 172. Effective with the third quarter of 2016, the due date for Quarterly filers is the last day of the month following the end of the quarter.
