Cheri B. Cunningham was appointed Director of Law for the
City of Akron on October 1, 2009. She previously held the position of Assistant Director
of Law for twenty-five years.
As the Citys Director of Law, Ms. Cunningham is responsible for the operations of
the Civil and Criminal divisions. She oversees all litigation involving the City and is
the legal advisor for the City and its officers and departments.
Prior to moving to Akron to attend law school, Ms. Cunningham was a librarian in
Salamanca, New York and Franklin, Pennsylvania. She is a graduate of Clarion University of
Pennsylvania with a B.S.Ed. and M.S.L.S. She is admitted to practice in all Ohio courts,
the Northern District of Ohio, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States
Supreme Court.
Ms. Cunningham is a member of the Akron Bar Association, Akron Bar Foundation, Ohio
State Bar Association and the American Bar Association. She currently serves as a member
of the OSBA Council of Delegates and Masters of the Bar Task Force. She is a graduate of
Leadership Akron and has been involved in community volunteer activities including Daisy
Scouts, United Way, Community Legal Aid and the University of Akron.
