2016 - Kids play the Steel Drum at the Akron Urban League ward 3 celebration 2016 - Kids play the Steel Drum at the Akron Urban League ward 3 celebration

The Neighborhood Art Celebration is an opportunity for each community to embrace their local arts and individuals to cultivate their own artistic knowledge with a focus on dance, visual arts, gardening and more!  Come to one celebration or come to them all.  Free for all ages!  Join us in celebrating our local Akron arts!

Featured Components for each celebration:

Sustainable arts - Fairy Gardens:  In partnership with Keep Akron Beautiful, we will learn about beautifying our land and programs that are offered in Akron. Keep Akron Beautiful will display a handmade fairy garden, and explain how to re-use existing household materials for fun, unique gardening methods. Community members will have an opportunity plant a flower and take them home. We will supply the materials (soil, containers, and flowers) and encourage the community to have an open mind on sustainable options for artistic gardening.

Performing Arts - Dance with me!: /dans/ - noun: a series of movements that match the speed and rhythm of a piece of music.  Come on down and shake it, groove it!  Local dancers will be on site to teach dance moves to everyone, and you may even be able to participate in an improptu choreographed piece.  Some say that dance is one of the most beautiful and expressive forms of art...you be the judge!

Visual Arts - Beautify Trash Containers: Have you ever noticed the cement trash containers that are located all over the city?  They are definitely necessary but not at all pretty to look at - until now!  Patrons will help paint a portion of the design that will decorate a trash container within your neighborhood.  Inspired by the works of Kandinsky and other famous artists, we need your help to create our own local masterpiece!

Fashionista: What ever happened to your favorite t-shirt from years past...it's too worn out to actually wear but you just can't bring yourself to throw it away?  Learn how to up-cycle t-shirts in to something you want to use without actually having a sewing machine....a different styled shirt?  A shoulder bag? A cloth bracelet?  We are going to give you some ideas as to how you can re-use your favorite apparel for years to come!
