THE DEPARTMENT OF
The Department of Human Resources for the City of Akron provides a comprehensive human resources system for all City employees and administers a merit system for classified employees of the Akron Public Schools.
The functions of the Department of Human Resources are not unlike those of private industry or other large cities. The scope of responsibilities includes employment (recruitment and selection), compensation (job evaluation and job classification), employee records (leave and payroll certification), employee training (skill and supervisory training), and employee benefits (benefits enrollment, FMLA, Worker's Compensation).
The City employs approximately 2,100 full-time and seasonal employees.
