City Extends Leaf Collection Program

Weather permitting, the City will return to neighborhoods to continue leaf removal

City of Akron Press Release
From the desk of Ellen Lander Nischt, Press Secretary
Published: 11-22-2017

Akron, Ohio, November 22, 2017 The City of Akron is extending its Leaf Removal Program into December, as long as weather permits. Due to the warmer weather this fall season, the leaves stayed on the trees longer than usual and initial leaf removal in some wards was limited. Therefore, after the City has completed one full round of leaf removal citywide, the Street Cleaning Division will revisit Ward’s 5, 3, 6, 2, 1 and 8 to provide additional service to residents.

Deputy Director of Public Service Chris Ludle explains, “The same City crews that collect leaves also handle snow and ice removal. So, as long as the weather cooperates, we will continue to make our way through the neighborhoods to collect leaves.”

The following are the expected dates that the Street Cleaning Division will return to these wards:

                           Ward 5            December 11, 12

Ward 3            December 13, 14

Ward 6            December 15, 16, 18

Ward 2            December 19 - 21

Ward 1            December 22, 23

Ward 8             December 26, 27

These extended pick up dates are subject to change based on the weather and the City’s completion of the first round of pick-up citywide.  Residents should watch for signs in the tree lawns providing advanced notice of pickup dates and are reminded to refrain from raking or blowing leaves into the street until the day before scheduled leaf removal

Residents in Wards 4, 7, 9, and 10 can receive additional vacuum pick-up service after December 27, if needed, by visiting akronohio.gov/311 or calling the Mayor’s 3-1-1 Action Center at 311 or 330/375-2311 and entering a request for leaf removal entered for their address.

Any changes to the schedule listed above will be updated on the Leaf Removal page at www.akronohio.gov/cms/LeafRemovalProgram.
