City of Akron to Participate in Second Hackathon Event to Improve Services through Technology
City of Akron Press Release
From the desk of Ellen Lander Nischt, Press Secretary
Akron, Ohio, April 20, 2017– This Saturday, April 22, 2017, Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan will help kick off the City’s second "Hack N Akron" hackathon event, hosted by Launch League. The event will bring together a diverse set of interested individuals from the area's tech, business, and design talent to join City officials to find creative ways to use technology to advance City services and communications.
"Upon taking office, I quickly realized that some of our most persistent organizational challenges could be significantly improved through technology," Mayor Horrigan said. "So we’re bringing together a motivated, resourceful team of tech- and design-savvy hackers to help us creatively rethink our processes so we can improve the experience for our customers."
"For this event, the tech and business communities are joining us in further developing an Open Data platform that will greatly enhance citizens’ access to City data, a process we started last year. I also asked the community to work with us on creating a template for neighborhood branding, and to help us find innovative ways to improve the Community Learning Center reservation process to facilitate greater use of these incredible community assets. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish!"
