Akron, Ohio, June 1, 2016 – Mayor Dan Horrigan will hold a press conference on Thursday, June 2 in recognition of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The press conference will be held at 954 Copley Road, Akron, Ohio 44320 at 2 p.m.

“June 2 will be a day of listening, sharing and action across the nation on the important issue of gun violence…it is essential that our community confront the issue, and the physical and emotional toll it takes,” said Mayor Horrigan.

In recognition and support of the Mayor’s involvement with Mayors Against Illegal Guns, the Mayor has invited all City of Akron employees and citizens to join in and support this national awareness day by wearing orange June 2. A proclamation will be released recognizing the day. The city’s proclamation will be on display in the Municipal Building downtown and in Washington, D.C. at the Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns headquarters along with the proclamations of more than 100 other participating cities.

Employers across the city are encouraged to acknowledge this national day by asking their employees to join the City of Akron by wearing orange. Individuals wearing orange June 2 are encouraged to tweet photographs to @AkronOhioMayor with #WearOrange.
