Akron, Ohio (May 14, 2014) - Akron’s Eighth Annual Neighbors Day is this Saturday, May 17, 2014, and Mayor Don Plusquellic is encouraging residents to find a neighborhood gathering to attend.

The City, in conjunction with outside businesses, individual households, and/or organizations, is sponsoring 5 sites:

Patterson Park Community Center, 800 Patterson Avenue, is hosting a Neighbors Day Celebration, in conjunction with Stonehedge, from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 pm.   This location will have a welcome and showmobile on site at 9:00, with a group leaving for Stonehedge at 10 a.m. for bowling and miniature golf, to return to Patterson Park at 11:30.  At 10:30, a soccer tournament and bingo will start.    Refreshments, shuffleboard, billiards, pie eating contests, volleyball, 3-on3 basketball, a book walk, a collaborative art project, music, food, car show, and more will occur throughout the day!

Summit Lake Community Center, 380 West Crosier Street, will host its Neighbors Day Celebration from Noon-3:00 p.m.  That site will have games, kite flying, chalk art, bounce house, hula hoops and lunch.

“Neighbors Day Akron is designed to help residents get to know one another, and I am really excited about the line-up of events that are planned throughout the City,” stated Mayor Don Plusquellic.  “The concept of Neighbors Day is simple:  Know your neighbors, and friendlier, safer neighborhoods will follow.”
