Akron, Ohio, January 23, 2018—The City of Akron Holocaust Arts and Writing Contest is an arts and writing based competition for middle and high school students in Akron and Summit County.  This year is the 30th year of the City of Akron Holocaust Arts and Writing Contest, and the theme for 2018 is Lessons of the Holocaust: The Lives of the Children.  Entries are due February 2, 2018.  All entries can be delivered on this date to the Municipal Building (166 South High Street, Room 103) between 11AM and 6:30 PM.

Middle and high school students have been invited to submit art or writing entries to the Contest in Division I (Grades 6-8) or Division II (Grades 9-12). Students can submit from their schools or independently, but each student can submit only one entry.  First place winners go as a group with their teachers to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.  In recognition of our 30th anniversary each first place winning student, teacher, and school will receive a cash award.  

 

The City of Akron Holocaust Commemoration and contest awards ceremony will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Akron Summit County Public Library, Main Branch: 6 p.m. - Awards Presentation; 6:30 p.m. – Commemoration Ceremony.  Winning art and writing entries will be displayed at the Akron Summit County Public Library, Main Branch, April 3 through May 3, 2018.
