Akron, Ohio, January 19, 2018 Today, Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan and eBay CEO Devin Wenig announced a transformational new partnership in support of Akron entrepreneurs. EBay has selected Akron as the first U.S. city for a new program focused on bringing traditional brick & mortar businesses online and introducing them to new customers around the world.

The program, called "Retail Revival," involves a 12-month partnership between the City and eBay to help local small businesses and the Akron community harness the power of technology and eBay’s global marketplace. Warren, OH based businesses will also be eligible to participate in the program.

"The long-term health of our local economy will depend on the strength of our entrepreneurs and small, scalable businesses," Mayor Horrigan said. "We are thrilled to be the pilot community for this catalytic program, which will enable us to continue to invest in our neighborhood businesses and build on Akron’s storied history of innovation and entrepreneurship by supporting our traditional retail businesses with new opportunities to thrive and expand through ecommerce."

"Those of us who live here already know that some of the best products are made and sold in Akron and Summit County – and it’s time we share our exceptional goods and first class customer service with the rest of the world," Mayor Horrigan continued. "By introducing our local businesses to eBay’s massive customer base, world class infrastructure, and global reach, we expect to see significant, organic growth that will enable these businesses to hire new people, open or maintain physical retail spaces, and expand their market share."

In partnership with the City of Akron, eBay will select 20-40 local businesses to participate in the program for 2018. Those businesses will receive exclusive support and resources to help them get started selling on the eBay platform including a comprehensive training

program that will teach the eBay selling basics, a dedicated customer service support team to answer any questions the new sellers may have, a complimentary eBay store subscription, and an eBay selling starter kit. Akron or Warren, OH based businesses interested in participating in the program can apply by visiting and filling out a submission form by Friday, February 9 at 11:59PM ET.

"Enabling entrepreneurs and small businesses through technology is central to our business and purpose. We’re excited to partner with the City of Akron to further their commitment to local entrepreneurship and help bring Main Street businesses to buyers around the world," eBay President & CEO Devin Wenig said.
