Akron, Ohio, February 3, 2017 – “I am proud to announce that the City of Akron Recreation Bureau will be hosting the Jr. NBA Skills Challenge on Saturday, February 18th,” Mayor Horrigan said. “This free event is a great way for our young people to test out their basketballs skills and possibly win a chance to compete regionally or even nationally.”   

WHAT:             Jr. NBA Skills Challenge hosted by the City of Akron

WHEN:            Saturday, February 18, 2017    9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

WHERE:          Hyre Community Learning Center: 2443 Wedgewood Drive, Akron, Ohio 44312.

WHO:              Boys and Girls, ages 14 and younger

PRE- REGISTER:   Summit Lake Community Center: 380 W. Crosier Street, Akron, Ohio 44311 : Monday - Friday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.  Deadline for pre-registration is February 16th

OPEN REGISTER:    Day of Event - February 18th   8:00 AM - 9:00 AM.  NO registrations after the event has started

COST:             FREE for all participants and organizations

The Jr. NBA Skills Challenge provides boys and girls, ages 14 and younger, the opportunity to showcase their fitness through a basketball skills competition that includes dribbling, shooting, and rebounding.  Boys and girls compete separately in two different age groups: 12 and under and 14 and under. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Place award winners in each age and gender category will advance to the Regional Competition in Indiana. Participants must have proof of age and fill out a registration/liability form in order to participate.
