City of Akron Press Release
Published: 09-18-2013

Akron, Ohio (September 18, 2013) -  Mayor Don Plusquellic, at a news conference today, demonstrated the new user-friendly City of Akron website which went live this morning.   The new website offers a clean, smart design allowing users to easily navigate through useful and current information and data, including an online listing of all key city of Akron services, and a multiple keyword alphabetical listing.

Located at www.akronohio.gov, the website is a portal site to which all City of Akron websites can be linked, while still communicating City of Akron messaging in an exciting and engaging way that tailors to its four key audiences: residents, visitors, business owners, and their employees.

“We are constantly seeking to improve the delivery of services to our residents, visitors and businesses,” said Mayor Don Plusquellic. “Our citizens have made it known that they want easier and increased communications between themselves and their government. They want up-to-date information in an easy to find format, and they want access to City services while at home or work.  We responded, and this improved website should help to bridge any perceived gap between our residents and City hall.”

The new website was designed by Hitchcock Fleming & Associates, Inc. (hfa), an Akron-based marketing firm, in conjunction with a team from the City of Akron.  hfa donated 50 percent of the cost of developing the website.  hfa has provided project management, programming input, design architecture, navigability, functionality and messaging.

“A strong web presence helps attract visitors and prospective business owners.  The new website provides open communication and business development content to inform site users about the city and all it offers,” said Keith Busch, hfa VP/client development.

The new website implements a consistent look and feel that aids in the creation of a strong city identity, builds recognition for the city and is representative of the forward-thinking and collaborative environment that exemplifies Akron.

hfahas produced award-winning digital communications for many brands and earned the international Web Marketing Association’s Best of Show Award in 2010 for developing the Glidden website.

The City also tapped EYEMG to provide its content management system.  By using the EYEMG Compose content management tool, the City is able to organize, maintain and add to its website in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
