City of Akron Press Release
Published: 07-08-2016

Akron, Ohio, July 8, 2016 – In light of the tragic events across the country these past few days, the City of Akron is providing information on long-standing programs that support our community through the Police…Community…Together Initiative.

“From the Akron PeaceMakers Program to regular meetings with Akron’s faith community, to increased officer training, to our Body Worn Camera Program – we are committed to having strong police-community relations within our city. We will continue to look for new and innovative ideas,” said Mayor Dan Horrigan.

“In situations like this, the efforts we have implemented to improve police-community relations, have helped us become a better department – relationships matter, our history of professionalism is important. We are a part of the community and the community is part of us,” added Major Ken Ball.

In support of the initiative, community leaders and civilian observers will be riding along with Akron Police Department patrol officers this weekend.

For additional information, feel free to contact Billy Soule at 330/375-2660 or [email protected]; or Lt. Rick Edwards at 330/375-2375.
