Lock 3 in Downtown Akron Announces Summer Schedule!

AKRON, OH (May 6, 2014) - The City of Akron’s Lock 3 amphitheater opens the 2014 summer season with the first Rock the Lock concert, presented by WONE on May 23rd on the Akron General Stage featuring Mr. Speed, A Tribute to Kiss with G-Force. The venue has hosted more than 2 million visitors since its opening in 2003 and has announced a 2014 summer season with more than 25 Friday and Saturday night concerts, six festivals, 23 community fund-raising events, 11 farmers markets and 15 jazz and gospel events in neighboring Lock 4.

WONE’s Friday Night Rock the Lock Concerts

Rock and roll tribute bands have been the signature of Lock 3 on Friday nights during the summer. New tributes and old favorites will perform every Friday from May 23rd – August 29th. Admission is always free to Rock The Lock events and picnic baskets are welcome.

Friday Night Cornhole Tournaments sponsored by Miller Fortune return to Lock 3 where participants can Win Their Fortune with a grand prize of $1,000! The double elimination rounds occur on June 6th, June 13th, June 20th , July 18th, July 25th, August 1st and August 8th. Registration starts at 7pm on a first come first serve basis and are limited to 16 teams. Cost is $20 per team and includes 2 drink tickets for soda or beer and munchies. The first and second place finishers from each week will be invited back to play in the Tournament of Champions on August 15th.

           Lock 3 Live! Concerts

Saturday night concerts include national artists as well as national tribute bands and start on June 28th and continue through August 30th.

Lock 3 Live will also host The Indigo Girls on Thursday August 14th in conjunction with the Gay Games. A Lock 3 extra will include jazz artist, Brian Culbertson on July 18th inside the Civic Theatre.  Tickets for both of these shows are available right now at www.akroncivic.com and www.Ticketmaster.com.

The City of Akron’s Rib, White and Blue Festival July 2nd – 5th

Lock 3 expands its gates to South Main Street for Northeast Ohio’s largest 4th of July rib festival, as rib vendors from all over the United States compete for cash prizes and bragging rights.  For decades, Akron has celebrated Independence Day with food, fireworks, and music. The 66th Annual Italian-American Festival July 11th - 13th

The three-day festival opens for lunch on Friday and continues through Sunday night. Dozens of vendors of authentic Italian food will be on hand through the three-day event on South Main Street. Admission is free for this event. For a complete list of events visit www.it-am.org.

           National Hamburger Festival August 9th – 10th

This year marks the 7th anniversary of the National Hamburger Festival. Over 120,000 hamburger fans have enjoyed family fun, great entertainment and one of the largest assortments of hamburgers ever assembled in one place. Admission is $5. Global Village Festival September 13th

Bring the whole family to celebrate food, music and culture from around the world at the annual Global Village Festival of Akron. Admission is free for this event. For a complete list of events visit www.akrongvf.org.

Community Events Abound at Lock 3

Over $1 million has been raised for the charities which have used Lock 3 as a home base for fundraisers. Over 25 community events have been scheduled so far for Lock 3 in 2014.

          Lock 4's Lock Bottom Blues & Jazz Club and Gospel Sundays

The City of Akron will continue to host free local jazz concerts every Wednesday from July 9th – September 3rd at the Lock Bottom Blues & Jazz Club in Lock 4. Concerts start at 7pm. For a complete schedule visit www.lock3live.com.

Gospel Sundays will return for a second year in a row every Sunday from July 27th – August 31st. Concerts start at 5pm. For a complete schedule visit www.lock3live.com.

The Lock 4 entrance is located on Bowery Street between Lock 3 and the Akron Civic Theatre.         

Lock 3 Farmers' Market

The Market at Lock 3 began in 2008 and is a unique outdoor producers-only market managed by Downtown Akron Partnership. It will be held every Friday, June 20th - September 12th at 11:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M.
