Over 600 hundred basketball teams from around the country, including Canada, will converge in Akron and Summit County the weekend of April 24th -26th for the 10th Annual King James Shooting Stars Classic Tournament. The King James tournament is organized by the Northeast Ohio Basketball Association and founded by Dru Joyce II. Its mission is to enrich the lives of youth and teach life lessons through the sport of basketball.
The family friendly tournament is sponsored by the City of Akron and the Northeast Ohio Basketball Association. Weekend passes (best deal) will be available at all game sites, and costs $25, Friday Only Admission is $10, Championship Sunday Only Admission is $15, and children 9 years old and under are admitted free.
“I always look forward to this event when our community welcomes hundreds of participants, their families, friends, fans, and spectators,” said Akron Mayor Don Plusquellic. “We get to showcase our amenities to our visitors, like our world-class art museum, impressive downtown minor league baseball stadium, beautiful scenic Cuyahoga Valley National Parks and trails, new and updated Community Learning Centers, along with many other first-rate public venues and local restaurants. And, the influx of activity during this popular weekend has had a large economic impact in our area, infusing over $2.5M dollars into our local economy in 2014 alone.”
